European
Computer Flight Simulation Exhibition '01, Birmingham, UK
Saturday
24th November 2001 saw Eurostars first attendance at the European
Computer Flight Simulation exhibition held at The National Motorcycle
Museum, Birmingham, England. This was the eighth show staged
here and organised by R.C. Simulations . The event gives the
like minded person from virtual or real life aviation, commercial
or enthusiast to share their hobby.
Eurostar Aviation was represented by Stephen Cooke (Chairman),
Matt Washburn (Director of Online Operations) and Nick Partridge
(Director of Information Technology). Also at the show was Chris
Smith, Director of Information Technology, who previously headed
the 'Pegasus' project. The object of our attendance was to promote
the VA as well as carry out an information gathering exercise
in this our first year.

We had secured a small display area
where we had a PC running a PowerPoint presentation outlining
our Airline, Aircraft, current management software and views
of Pegasus. A 1.5m x 1.0m poster depicting Eurostars 5th anniversary
and featuring the Airbus A330 was on display, leaflets were
also available with some 200 been distributed. The management
team were able to deal with enquires and questions that arose.
The main topic that came up on several occasions was "what
is a Virtual Airline" and "what can it do for me".

Others
attending included R.C. Simulations, promoting software and
hardware and also with a Virtual Reality set-up for hands
on trial. Other vendors included Thrustmaster & CH Products,
Aerosoft, UK2000 Scenery (Gary Summons) and of course Microsoft
featuring FS2002. If you required a product for your hobby
this was where to get it! The virtual airlines of Knight Air,
Pilots United and BA Virtual. VATSIM were able to give a presentation
of online flying with SquawkBox and Pro Controller.
Our
thanks and appreciation is extended to Bob Sidwick, R.C. Simulations
for their hosting of the event and accommodating us. It is
hoped that we shall be able to attend and expand on our presence
next year. Will you be there?
